FEMTOSECOND LASER FOR LONGITUDINAL CUTTING AND FILAMENTIZATION OF HTSC TAPES

New laser equipment has been put into operation in the company "S-Innovations". Now we have the opportunity to use a femtosecond laser for longitudinal cutting of htsp tape! The advantage of laser technology over mechanical cutting is that ultrashort pulses of light have a precise and local effect on the material. There are no microcracks, overheating and other damages in the cutting area.

The result of the technology will be a higher current htsp-wire, precise geometric dimensions and improved mechanical properties. The new plant expands the range of htsp-products "S-Innovations", because it allows not only to cut, but also to filamentize htsp-tape (non-through etching). This cut into strips htsp-wire finds applications in devices operating on alternating current and in magnets with high requirements for the uniformity of the magnetic field.

Interesting fact: in one femtosecond, light travels a distance of only 300 nanometers; it takes between 100 and 300 femtoseconds to pass through the ribbon being cut!
